All good things to those who wait. Well, kind of. I pitched up at Camber
at about 11.30 to find the usual suspects milling around with their 5.0-5.7
sails - except Grawp who was getting to grips with his new slalom board and
a 6.5m. Seeing so little wind as I came over the dunes, I thought I'd been
Krafty'd again, so after about half an hour of indecision, I finally went
for my 6.5m and my new Rocket 125. Other than the fact that it was quite a
lot of kit to lug over the dunes, it actually wasn't a bad sail. The wind
filled in a bit and I could have quite happily been on my Syncro. Still,
it was a good chance to try and wash the smell of vomit from my board and
also a good test of how much of the bumpy stuff the Rocket can take. The
board handled it ok, but I'm not sure I should have been jumping it as high
as I was and at one point I came over the back of a wave only to find it
was about boom high, which was quite an experience on a board that big. It
gybes ok, but nowhere near as nicely as my old Mistral Radar. I suppose if
you have a super wide board then you just have to expect that you can't
crank it round too tight.
I enjoyed an hour or so in the sun with Krafty and RichC, so not unhappy
about today. Hamptonw and Grawp headed down to the centre car park to
launch from there. Haven't seen them since, but they never made it out. I
warned them that that place is the devil's arpit, but would they listen
